Gen. Kayani: Pakistan's security first

Pakistan's Chief of Army Staff General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani says Islamabad will not compromise on its national security and integrity.

Speaking to the visiting Chairman of the US Joint Chiefs of Staff Admiral Michael Mullen, Gen. Kayani said on Monday that Islamabad wants peace with neighboring India while upholding its sovereignty at the same time, a Press TV correspondent in Islamabad reported.

"Pakistan will not tolerate any aggression on its eastern borders. Pakistan has always exercised restrain and responsibility in war against terrorism", Kayani said.

Kayani's remark came after Mullen met Pakistan's National Security Advisor Mahmud Ali Durrani to discuss the tensions between Islamabad and New Delhi.

Mullen, making his second visit this month to Pakistan, arrived in Islamabad on Monday amid India's call for more pressure on Pakistan. He will meet with President Asif Ali Zardari and other high-ranking officials.

Relations between Islamabad and New Delhi have deteriorated following Mumbai terror attacks in which more than 170 people were killed and scores of others injured.

India holds Pakistan-based militants responsible for the attacks and has urged Islamabad to take action against those responsible for the terrorist act. Pakistan vehemently denies any involvement.

Washington backs India, accusing Pakistan of providing a safe haven for Taliban, al-Qaeda and other terror groups - an excuse the US forces in Afghanistan use to pound Pakistani border towns.

Since August, US drones have launched at least 20 missile attacks in Pakistan's tribal regions, killing scores of people and sparking national outrage.
